Finnegans on Broadway

Frequent performer in the monthly show, which would rotate themes such as the 90s, Disney, Halloween, rock musicals & so much more. A night of Broadway music as well as a fundraiser for the Finnegans Community Fund, helping those who face food insecurity.

Holiday Princess Concert - Sabes Center, Minneapolis

Lara performed a soprano rendition of “Once Upon A Dream”, made famous by Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. The concert featured a talented cast of singers performing a whole host of other royal tunes spanning from 1937 to 2023. Half-Baked Cabaret

For one night only, Theatre Elision Playhouse hosted Twin Cities vocalists sharing some developing work in repertoire! Lara sang “Dear Friend” from She Loves Me (Amalia being a dream role and all!). Click the thumbnail on the left for a link to tickets & more information.

Minne-Musicals

Performed in Minneapolis Musical Theatre’s Minne-Musicals in collaboration with the Hennepin Theatre Trust. Lara played the quirky & adorkable eponymous hipster sister Jacqueline, singing & accompanying on ukulele, in the 10-minute musical The Hipster Sister by Andy Roninson. Musical Mondays at Lush

Featured in the Star Tribune from a December 2017 performance. The theme for this night was “Together”. You could hear Lara sing “In Harmony” from The Little Mermaid TV Series, and duetting “Sisters” from White Christmas with the incredible Jennifer Grimm, among solos in group numbers like “The New World” from Songs for a New World and “We’re All In This Together” from Disney’s High School Musical.

BroadwayWorld Award 2016

Lara Akal won the BroadwayWorld Minneapolis 2016 Award for Best Actress in a Musical in January of 2017 for her role in Lady in the Dark with the University of Minnesota Opera Theatre.

My Carnegie Moment - Playbill

Playbill’s coverage of the Paramount Pictures Florence Foster Jenkins Broadway event where Lara Akal sang “Part of Your World” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid at Carnegie Hall. It was an incredible full circle moment for Lara, whose singing journey began by finding the courage to first share her newfound voice during a difficult time with that very song years ago in middle school. Ariel has always meant the world to her, and what a way to share the impact her story left on Lara’s own journey at such an iconic venue. This won’t be the last time she’ll be singing here!
